Awareness Programme on Protection of plant varieties and farmers’ right act 2001
ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendra, MYRADA, Erode District, Tamilnadu organized awareness programme on Farmers’ Right under Protection of Plant varieties and Farmer’s Rights Act, 2001 with the support of Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Authorities, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Department of Agriculture Cooperation, Government of India on 17th March 2018 at KVK premises.
Mr.Saravanakumar, Scientist (Agronomy) has given the welcome address to the farmers and dignitaries follow to that, Mr.R.D.Srinivasan, Scientist (Plant Protection) briefed about the Protection of plant varieties and farmers’ right act 2001 and its importance.
Dr.Ashokan, Dean, JKKM College of Agricultural Sciences, TN Palayam shared the importance of traditional varieties and its conservation. Also delivered the technical speech by D.Alarmelu, Principal Scientist, Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore, Mr.Asaithambi, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Gobichettipalayam, Thiru.Sektheen, Petroleum Conservation Research Association, Chennai, Mrs.Santhi, Horticulture Officer, Gobi, Mrs.Kavitha, Bank of Baroda, Gobichettipalayam and Mr.Govindaraju, Jeyam Animal Care Trust, Gobi.
During the occasion, KVK webcasted the Honorable Prime Minister speech during the Kisan Unnati Mela and National Conference held at IARI Campus, New Delhi. KVK organized exhibits on traditional seeds varieties, farm implements and value added products and to create awareness among the farmers. 512 farmers and 158 agricultural students, 19 government officials and 16 other stakeholders participated in the programme. The programme ended with National Anthem.
