Infrastructure Facilities

Soil, Plant & Water Testing Laboratory:

Krishi Vigyan Kendra established Soil, Plant & Water testing laboratory in the year 2005 with the support of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.  The Subject Matter Specialist organizes Soil Health Camp in different blocks of the district to create awareness on importance of soil sampling and soil testing among the farmers.  Every year KVK conducted World Soil Day by inviting Scientist, Line Department Officials and Farmers.

Plant Health Diagnostic Center :

Plant Health Diagnostic Centre established in the year 2010 with the support of ICAR.   The centre analyzed the pests and disease infected plant and recommendations given for rectifying the problem to the farmers.

Bio Control Laboratory:

Bio Control Laboratory was established in the year 2008 and producing the bio inoculants like Pseudomonas fluorescens, Trichoderma viride, Trichoderma harzianum Pacileomyeces lilicanus and biofertilizers like Azospirillum, Phosphobacterium, Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhizae and bio pesticide like Neem soap and pungam soap, for managing the pests and diseases.   The farmers are availing for their farming activities.

Turmeric Assaying Laboratory:

KVK established two Turmeric Assaying Laboratories in the year 2008 one at KVK premises and another one in Regulated Market Committee, Perundurai.  The purpose of the laboratory are test the turmeric curcumin value, test other factors like phosphorus in soil and plant, apart from curcumin.  The laboratory has the facility of moisture meter which can be used for analyzing the moisture level of the product (like paddy, maize, groundnut and sesame). This will help the farmers to keep the appropriate moisture level in their product before it is taken to sale. It would also help the farmers to store the product in optimum moisture atmosphere to avoid storage pest and diseases.   This facility would indirectly motivate the turmeric farmers to choose the suitable curcumin variety in turmeric keeping the market preference and demand in consideration.

Micro Nutrient Production Unit:

Micro nutrient is essential for crop growth in order to increase in production and productivity of the crops.  In this context KVK established Micro Nutrient Production Unit and produces Banana Special, Vegetable Special and Mango Special.  The Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bangalore has given the formulation technology for producing these micro nutrient.  The Farmers, Departments, KVKs are availing these micro nutrients for their farming activities.

Bio Input Production Unit:

KVK established Bio input production unit in the year 2012.  The unit producing Pseudomonas fluorescence, Trichoderma viride and Trichoderma harzianum  in both solid and liquid formulation.  Bio fertilizer like Azospirillum, Phosphobacterium and VAM are available solid formulation.  The unit also producing neem and pungam soap formulation for pest management which had been licensed by IIHR Bangalore.  At present the unit is producing Beauvaria bassiana and Isaria fumosorosoae for the benefit of farming communities.

Mushroom Spawn Production Unit:

Mushroom Spawn production laboratory established for Mushroom Bed Spawn (Oyster and Milky) production.  The spawn are produced and supply to the mushroom growers on indent basis. Oyster and milky mushroom model demo unit have been established at KVK premises.

Processing Unit:

KVK established Processing Unit in order to support the farmer and entrepreneurs. This centre has machinery and equipment like Grader and Destoner, Dehuller, Pulveriser, Baking Oven, Kneader, Vegetable cutter, Paste making machine, Amla juice maker and Sealing machine to process millets, fruits and vegetables with minimum charges.

Millet Value Addition Unit:

KVK established Millet value addition unit in order to support the entrepreneurs in the district.   The entrepreneurs utilize this unit and produce millet based value added products like Biscuits varieties, Nutri-mix, Ragi flour etc. and sell the product through Agri-Entrepreneurs Service Center (AESC) promoted by KVK.

Milk Processing and Value Addition Unit:

KVK established Milk Processing and value addition unit in order to support the FPO namely Surabi Dairy Farmers Producer Organization for processing and value addition in Bargur native cow and buffalo milk.  The Surabi FPO promoted by KVK involves in producing value added products such as Ghee, Paneer, Palkova, Curd etc. and marketing in their outlets.
